Ingredients
Quantities are for 2 servings.
Active time includes deseeding the jamun, blending, chilling, and rimming the shot glasses.
Method
Place the freshly deseeded java plum (jamun) pulp into a high-powered blender. Add the fresh mint leaves, lemon juice, sugar, water, and half of the black salt.
Blend until the mixture turns into a deep purple, thick, smooth puree.
Take shot glasses and moisten their rims using a lemon wedge. Spread the remaining black salt on a plate and dip the rims into the salt to create a savory crust.
Add the ice cubes directly into the blender with the thick puree and blitz for 5 seconds to chill it thoroughly without watering it down.
5 sec
Pour the icy, thick, dark purple drink into the salt-rimmed shot glasses.
Drink the shots immediately for a burst of nostalgic Kala Khatta flavors.
How to tell it's done
The jamun shots should be thick and slushy, with sweet fruit, tart lemon, and black salt in balance.
Getting it right
Tip
Jamuns naturally have an astringent aftertaste. A tiny pinch of chaat masala can be added to enhance the street-food vibe and balance that sharp finish.
What to serve it with
A fun welcome drink for monsoon get-togethers or casual summer snack spreads.
