Method

  1. In a small blender jar, grind the fresh coconut, crushed garlic, and green chilli into a coarse paste with a splash of water.

  2. Heat the oil in a heavy-bottomed pot over medium heat. Add the mustard seeds and cumin seeds. Let them crackle.

  3. Add the curry leaves and the prepared coconut-garlic paste. Sauté for a minute until the raw smell of garlic disappears.

  4. Pour in the prepared tomato puree and mix well. Let it cook for 2-3 minutes.

  5. Add the measured water and salt. Bring the mixture to a rolling boil, then lower the heat and let it simmer for 5 minutes.

  6. Turn off the heat. Garnish generously with the freshly chopped coriander.

  7. Serve hot as a soup or alongside daily rice.
