Ingredients

Quantities are for 2 servings.

You'll need: Stovetop.

Method

  1. If cooking from raw: Boil the water in a pot, add the soaked/drained basmati rice and a pinch of salt. Cook until fully done but with grains separate. Drain any excess water.

  2. In a wide, flat pan, melt the butter on low heat. Do not let the butter brown or burn.

  3. Add the finely minced garlic to the melted butter. Sauté gently on low heat for 1-2 minutes until the garlic is fragrant and loses its raw bite, but ensure it does not take on a dark color.

    1–2 min

  4. Add the cooked rice into the garlic butter. Toss gently using a spatula to coat every single grain in the luxurious butter.

  5. Sprinkle the mixed herbs, black pepper powder, and adjust salt if necessary (especially if using salted butter).

  6. Stir-fry for another 2 minutes on low heat until the rice is heated through and infused with the flavors.

    2 min

  7. Turn off the flame and serve immediately.

How to tell it's done

Glossy, buttery grains of rice with soft, fragrant specks of garlic and herbs.

Getting it right

Tip

The key to this dish is using ample butter and keeping the heat low while sautéing the garlic so it infuses the butter without turning bitter.

What to serve it with

A fantastic continental side dish. Serve it with Grilled Chicken, Veg Stroganoff, or roasted vegetables.
